Biography

Matthew Hagen is a 22 year old Electronic Media Communications major at Middle Tennessee State University concentrating on a degree in broadcast journalism in the sport's field.

Hagen has overcome many difficult factors including: the ability to cope with the diagnosis of spina bifida and scoliosis.

Spina Bifida usually causes people to become paralyzed, but Hagen has been playing sports since the age of 5, and has been following sports since before then.

He has played baseball, basketball, football, track, and cross country during his adolescence and teenage years. He still runs track as often as he can just because he does not want his disabilities to limit him until he absolutely has to. He has had 5 spinal procedures to ensure that the pain is limited. Hagen currently holds the Clinton High School two-mile track record at 11:26 seconds, which has been attempted but never broken since spring of 2007.

Hagen has also already received his General Associates of Sciences degree from Pellissippi State Community College in Knoxville, Tennessee and has completed his music minor.

He currently writes, edits, and does some on-air work for a sport's show at Middle Tennessee State University called National Sports Entertainment News. This show dedicates all sports news to different sports not only professionally but locally as well. He has been writing for this show for the last few months and has had nothing but excellent remarks from teachers, fellow students, and some of the anchors of the different segments on the show. Hagen also does the scoreboard for the show and runs the teleprompter.

Hagen enjoys watching all sports in every level and enjoys making predictions. He knows all the "ins" and "outs" of the rules and gets breaking news information daily. He can explain the rules clearly and why the calls, whether bad or good, were made and what the intentions are of each thing happening. He can call out penalties in football before they happen. He is also actively researching more sports to learn the rules so he can branch out into different categories.
